GMAIL

Grammar checking for Gmail, without a browser extension.

WriteNative is a Mac app, so it checks the Gmail message you are writing in Chrome the same way it checks Mail or Slack: mistakes underlined, explained in your language, fixed in one click.

How it works in Gmail

WriteNative reads the text box you are typing in through macOS Accessibility, including text boxes on web pages in Chrome. Open Gmail, start a message or a reply, and the underlines appear. Nothing reads your inbox; only the box you are typing in is checked.

  • Spelling and grammar mistakes underlined as you write.
  • The fix and the reason, in your language, one click away.
  • "Fix all" corrects a whole sentence at once.
  • The same shortcuts as everywhere else: select and press ⌥ twice to rewrite.

Why not an extension

A browser extension sees every page you open. WriteNative only sees the field you are typing in, and the same app covers Gmail, Mail, Slack and Notion, so your settings, dictionary and shortcuts are the same everywhere.

Write in your language, send in English

Press ⌥ twice with nothing selected and write in your language. The English is inserted at your cursor in the Gmail message, ready to send.

Good to know

We test Gmail in Chrome. In the browser, fixes go in when you click them; automatic typo fixes as you type are for native Mac apps such as Notes and Messages.

Questions

Does it work in Safari?
Chrome is where we test Gmail. Text boxes in other browsers usually work the same way, but we do not promise it yet.
Does it read my inbox?
No. It reads only the text box you are typing in, never other parts of the page.
Is my email stored?
No. Only the paragraph being checked is sent and nothing is kept. With the On-device plan nothing leaves your Mac.
