Where it works

WriteNative works in the text field you are typing in, in most Mac apps. Here is what to expect in each kind of app.

Underlines + typos fixed as you typeUnderlines, fixed in one clickShortcut only (⌥⌥)Left alone on purpose
  • Native Mac apps (Notes, Messages, TextEdit, Stickies): mistakes are underlined, and obvious typos are fixed as you type.
  • Mail, Outlook, Slack, Notion and the browser (Chrome, Gmail and other web text boxes): mistakes are underlined and fixed with one click, or all at once with Fix all.
  • Apps that don't expose their text (Pages, Keynote, terminals, code editors): no underlines, but the ⌥ twice shortcut still works on what you select or type.
  • WeChat, QQ and WeCom are left alone on purpose: they react badly to other apps reading or typing into them.

Turn it off in one app

Click the WriteNative icon in the menu bar while you are in that app and choose Turn off in app. It stays off there until you turn it back on. Google Docs draws its own text, so WriteNative cannot check inside it.
