Grammar checking for Slack, in the message you are writing.
WriteNative underlines mistakes in Slack's message box as you type, tells you how the message sounds before you send it, and turns a reply written in your language into natural English.
How it works in Slack
WriteNative is a Mac app that reads the field you are typing in through macOS Accessibility. In the Slack desktop app that is the message box, in channels, threads and direct messages alike. There is no Slack integration to approve and nothing for your workspace admin to install.
- Spelling and grammar mistakes are underlined while you type.
- Click an underline to see the fix and why, in your language; one click puts it in.
- "Fix all" corrects every mistake in the sentence at once.
- The WriteNative button in the corner of the box shows how many suggestions there are and how the message reads.
Hear how it sounds before you send it
Chat is where short messages read colder than you meant. WriteNative labels a message that sounds blunt or demanding and offers a friendlier version in one click. Select any text and press ⌥ twice to make it shorter, more formal, friendlier or more confident.
Your writing style follows the app: casual in Slack, more formal in Mail, without changing a setting.
Reply in your language, send English
Press ⌥ twice with nothing selected and write what you want to say in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish or any of 30 languages. The English appears as you type; press Return and it goes into the message box at the cursor. Your clipboard is left as it was.
What is different from other apps
In Slack, fixes go in when you click them, never behind your cursor while you type, so a message is never changed without you seeing it. Automatic typo fixes as you type are for native Mac apps such as Notes and Messages.
Questions
- Does it work in Slack in the browser too?
- Yes, in Chrome text boxes on your Mac, including Slack's web app. Most people use the desktop app, which is what we test first.
- Does my workspace admin need to approve it?
- No. WriteNative runs on your Mac and reads only the field you are typing in. Nothing is installed in Slack.
- Are my Slack messages sent anywhere?
- Cloud checks send only the paragraph you just wrote and keep nothing. With the On-device plan, checks run on your Mac and nothing leaves it.
- Does Grammarly work in Slack?
- Grammarly's Mac app does too. WriteNative adds explanations in your language, writing in your language straight into the message, and an on-device mode.
